Bubbs explores how a pen form factor in XR can become more than just a tool for writing. In 3D space, the same familiar form can open up entirely new ways to create, interact, and experience things when we hold it just a bit differently.

Because the stylus introduced a new way of holding and using the controller, I needed to show users exactly what the hand does. I explored this through tutorials that visually demonstrated the grip and motion, helping the interaction feel easier to understand and pick up. Inspired by Mirror Neuron Theory.

I explored hand tracking and dictation as a more natural way to handle text input in XR. Instead of relying on input alone, this let users switch between speaking, pointing, and placing content in a way that felt more fluid and spatial.

Getting the bubble to feel soft and believable took a lot of experimentation. Cloth sim was too heavy, and its collapse physics did not really look bubble-like, so I landed on a fine-tuned tween Wizard of Oz-ing and some shader magic to create the effect I wanted.

Bubbs was selected as a finalist in three categories and won Best Use of Logitech Stylus Overall. The project also led to an invitation to speak at AWE 2025. I had the opportunity to share the work and the ideas behind it with the broader XR community, create lasting friendships and memories.
